Known problem. The format of /proc/meminfo changed somewhere in the
late 1.3.5x's and broke top (and ps -u etc).

ftp to sunsite or tsx-11 and upgrade to procps-0.99 (or better, if
there's been another release. There's binaries in the package, but it
needs patching to compile).

This is an FAQ. There are other programs that have also broken with
the latest kernels and binutils/libc's.
