2.1.125: sound processes hang on exit

Linux 2.1.125 is turning out to be a lot more positive of an
experience than 2.1.90 was. So far it boots and runs and looks
pretty good.

However, I am seeing a problem with pretty much all programs that
use /dev/audio or /dev/dsp hanging on exit; the processes have to
be killed (or apparently delivered most any signal) before they
go away and release the device.

On at least a small positive note for the current sound driver, a
problem I've been seeing _forever_ (since 1.2.x) with the DOOM
sndserver failing with the kernel emitting "Sound (DMA) timed out
-- IRQ/DRQ conflict?" messages seems to have finally gone away.
