Wouldn't it be better to use the cpp specified in the Makefile ?
Something like '$(CC) $(CFLAGS) -DAIC_CPP=$(CPP) -c aic7xxx_seq.c'
doesn't look so bad and we could assume that this cpp will work.

Maybe I construct a patch for this, provided it's necessary.
