No. The patch somebody else has posted to linux-kernel works, and is
reasonable.

That being said, dd's behavior is _not_ reasonable; short reads or writ=
es
do happen. They usually don't happen with block devices, but they can, =
for
instance if you write your floppy with bs=3D12345.
