Linux 2.2.16pre2 isolated cdrom bootup module block device error!

Hi,
I've compiled linux 2.2.16pre2 and I have the following CDROM drive
below which I'm not sure if it is ATAPI or not. I've isolated the cause of
the errors that I list below.

I'm getting the following problems upon bootup when rc.cdrom is run and it
performs a "for loop" cycling through the devices for cdrom such as scd0,
scd1, sonycd .... and it tries to mount it iso9660 until it gets one. In
my case, it mounts /dev/hdd as my cdrom drive.

32X TOSHIBA CD-ROM XM-6202B IDE drive

The errors I get are

modprobe: can't locate module block-major-11
modprobe: can't locate module block-major-15
..
..
..

and all of the following too! 11,11,15,24,23,25,29,32,20,20,18.
I assume the reason a number repeated twice is due to the block minor
number.

ISOLATION OF PROBLEM:
I have all the cdrom support compiled into the kernel and am
not using modules for them. However, I do modprobe sound, network
and ppp support during bootup.

If the /etc/rc.d/rc.cdrom script isn't run you won't see the problem.
Moreover, you won't see the problem if during "make menuconfig" you don't
select KMOD support which loads the modules as-needed. But if you do
compile this option into the kernel, and you want to use it for other
modules such as sound, network, ppp support, then you'll get the errors
as stated above!

I've attached below, my kernel config file and my rc.cdrom script for
review.

Here is my config file that will work since KMOD isn't set.
