Hello, thank you for your message.

Chris said:
"I don't think that patch voting is very
interesting/useful as a feedback mechanism."

Point well taken, thank you.

Chris also said:
"What I suspect would be more so would be
some 'works for me' indication (or 'this
has problems for me on ...'). If people are
going to vote for or against inclusion, I
think that they should be including their
reasons, and once they do that they can
just write the reasons as a discussion thing."

- --------------------------

Excellent suggestion !!

I am happy to say that Clifford Wolf [email: clifford@clifford.at] has started a
Linux-Patch website - it's in a preliminary stage right now, - at:
http://linux-patches.rock-projects.com/

Pay a visit to the site and if you have any other suggestions, I am sure
Mr. Wolf would like to hear from you.

May I suggest that you email another copy of the message you emailed me to Mr.
Wolf and the Linux-Kernel list, so that more constructive inputs can be passed
to whoever successfully implement the Linux-Patch website, and make accelerate
Linux's evolutionary progress.

- --------------------------

Christ also said:
"I would suggest that the site also only
accept patches that applied (and test this
automatically) to the appropriate kernel
version (or patched kernel version). That
would serve as a first line of defense
against bogus or broken patches."

- --------------------------

The purpose of the Linux-patch archive is not only to enable people to find
patches, but also let people test patches.

Many patches were never applied to the official Linux release, but that never
mean that those patches that were never accepted by either Linus Torvalds or
Alan Cox are useless. People with odd combination of devices may be helped by
some of those patches.

Furthermore, the Linux-Patch website can be used as the testing ground for
patches. Yes, there will be bogus patches, but since patches comes in the form
of sourcecode, bogus patches will be highlighted by those who know and will be
promptly removed.

Again, thank you for your message.

Sincerely,
Pete
