Just for reference, both parts of isdn4linux (kernel bits and utils)
from ftp.suse.com compiled almost fully correctly on this glibc2
system against 2.1.125-ac2 (a structure related to compression in
ccp.c seemed not to get defined, though manually defining it (struct
compstat, IIRC) resulted in pgcc giving up because it thought it was
defined twice).

It works, too. One must be aware, though, of the interface default
settings, which mean one must issue the commands

isdnctrl system on
isdnctrl status ipppx on

before it will dial out in response to an isdnctrl dial ipppx
command.

Now, I'm waiting a day or so until the PPP stalls may, or may not,
become apparent.

Many thanks to all who helped get this stuff compiled.

Yours,
