ide-tape.o saga

On the off-chance that the new Travan-4 tape I bought might be bad, I
tried to verify the older backup on the other tape. It seems to be ok, but
towards the end of the archive on the tape, I started getting a whole
bunch of these messages:

Oct 14 00:52:47 tahallah kernel: ide-tape: ht0: DSC timeout
Oct 14 00:52:47 tahallah kernel: hdd: ATAPI reset complete
Oct 14 00:59:27 tahallah kernel: ide-tape: ht0: DSC timeout
Oct 14 00:59:27 tahallah kernel: hdd: ATAPI reset complete
Oct 14 01:01:27 tahallah kernel: ide-tape: ht0: DSC timeout
Oct 14 01:01:27 tahallah kernel: hdd: ATAPI reset complete
Oct 14 01:05:25 tahallah kernel: ide-tape: ht0: DSC timeout
Oct 14 01:05:25 tahallah kernel: hdd: ATAPI reset complete
Oct 14 01:07:25 tahallah kernel: ide-tape: ht0: DSC timeout
Oct 14 01:07:25 tahallah kernel: hdd: ATAPI reset complete

What exactly does this mean? I ended up killing the bru verify run as it
didn't seem to get anywhere towards the end of the 1.4GB archive.

Reading/writing to the new tape is totally-nonfunctional, so I guess it's
time to kick some MicroCenter ass. The older backup tape seems to bear
this out as I can read the files and verify them. I haven't yet written to
this tape as that archive is the only backup I've got :o(

Cheers,
Alex
