Creative 3D Blaster Banshee font corruption with screen blank

I was using my machine last night, and every time the screen
blanked, when it came back, my screen was gibberish. I seem
to recall that the console driver does font nulling to achieve
screen blanking.

Has anyone experienced font corruption related to this before?

System:

P233MMX with 32MB SDRAM
EFA (www.efacorp.com) Viking 1 (VIA VP2 (P5V580) chipset)

Creative 3D Blaster Banshee 16MB/100Mhz accel/3 wait states (factory config)
AHA-2940A (Fast SCSI-2)
Jazz 16
MS Busmouse
NE2000+ (genuine)
Linux 2.0.33
