Where can I find out more about kernel compile error messages?

Still having no luck compiling a kernel. Now trying to do it under RedHat
5.1, but I still get Error 1. Where can I find out about what all these
Error xx means??

BTW. How do you setup to dual boot slackware & RedHat?
