True - generic solutions aren't always available. But, I think here a
generic solution is available, or perhaps several possible solutions,
none of them perfect, but then again, most solutions never are.

Either way, I see no need to put any kind of metadata abstraction in
the kernel when it can be done in userspace perfectly well... whether
that be a directory holding files or another ELF segment or perhaps a
hybrid approach, I don't see why the kernel need get involved.
