CD-ROM Driver incompatibility

Hello,
I am not sure what exactely the incompatibility is, or which version it
started in.
I know it worked in 2.1.100
I am currently using 2.1.105

I typed (for debug purposes):
strace mount /mnt/cdrom/

The last part of that was:
sigprocmask(SIG_BLOCK, ~[TRAP SEGV], NULL) = 0
mount("/dev/cdrom", "/mnt/cdrom", "iso9660", MS_RDONLY|0xc0ed0000,
0x8053a60ISO9660 Extensions: Microsoft Joliet Level 3
<unfinished ...>

It just hung (over 2 hours I let it stand) and I hit CTRL-C
I tried it with 10 cds

[/root]# ps auwx|grep mount
root 509 0.0 0.2 752 364 1 D 00:07 0:00 mount
/mnt/cdrom/

The cdrom that is failing is:
[hdd]# cat model
WPI CDS-24X

The driver works fine with my yamaha cdr-100 (scsi)

Can someone look into it?
Also, something I noticed, after mounting a cd, I cannot mount or unmount
anything else, making a successful shutdown impossible
