I've seen this trouble on a machince with a Gateway PII-300, 64Mb RAM,
Adaptec AHA-2940UW SCSI Card, Seagate STT8000N Travan TR-4 Tape drive.

This is on a vanilla 2.0.33, and on 2.0.34pre8

When trying to read (say cp /dev/tape /dos/d/tape.img), similar errors
occured trying to write to the device eg, 'mt erase', or 'tar -czf ...'

Intriguley I know that the IDE version of this tape streamer works fine.

The error was as follows:

abjure> cp /dev/tape /dos/d/tape
st0: Error with sense data: extra data not valid
Current error st09:00: sns=70 5
ASC=24 ASCQ= 0
Raw Sense Data: 0x70 00 05 00 00 00 00 0a 00 00 00 00 24 00 00 00

st0: Error with sense data: Current error st09:00: sns=f0 3
ASC=11 ASCQ=0
Raw Sense Data: 0xf0 00 03 00 00 00 03 0a 00 00 00 00 11 00 00 00

cp: /dev/tape: I/O error.

Does anyone have any cluse what this might be?
How it can be fixed?

TTFN
