The same here when using dd from an IDE CD-ROM drive. It worked OK with
2.1.89, but in recent kernels (>= 2.1.96), I have seen it to fail.

The only difference is a plain Pentium here.

Still no clue, as if I use dd from an IDE HD to the floppy, no problems appear
(tested with the same file).
