I've had a very similar problem with the two pre-patches I tried (1 and
3) but I haven't tried the real release yet. In my case only the
msdos partition is sucessfully mounted. Without /usr the system
can't complete the booting process :-(

The 'mount' program doesn't produce any warning or error messages so
I guess that it "believes" that everything went o.k.
