2.1.99 .. still hangs

I'm still having some hangs with 2.1.99, although it is slightly better
than earlier. It usually happens under heavy load (perhaps when swapping
sets in, definitely when SMP is working a bit).

The machine is un-pingable after the lockup.

- dual PII, 128 MB, 440 chipset I believe
- SCSI 2940UW & IDE
- 3c905 networking
