Your hw config is not important. This is rather generic problem (read
"broken by design") with linux. Hopefully mm will be improved to at
least workaround this.

If you *really* need that floppy, I'd suggest you program which just
alocates 60Meg and uses them, then quits. This should make your floppy
working
