I Had the same errors a year or so ago on my WDC31600H if running MODE4.
Setting the BIOS to AUTO or MODE3 fixed the problem in my case. This is
because of different manifactures claimed of supporting MODE4 before
they really had torture tested it. The newer the drive, the more
propable it is that it really supports MODE4. Your mileage may vary
though. mlord prolly knows more about this issue.
