i caught the `-D__SMP__' early on, so squashed that particular misconfig..
kernel 2.1.30 (patched from 2.1.14, and cyrix patch melded in) compiled
cleanly, but i have a different problem.. the sound module will not
auto-load, and it appears that /dev/ttyS0 and /dev/ttyS2 are stuck (i get
`Device or resource busy' and X fails to start.) things work fine with
2.1.26.

any ideas, or do i need some new software? i read Documentation/Changes; the
only thing i don't have is net-tools 1.32 alpha, and that's because i get
this:

gcc -O2 -Wall -fomit-frame-pointer -I. -Ilib -c ifconfig.c -o ifconfig.o
ifconfig.c:76: field `stats' has incomplete type
make: *** [ifconfig.o] Error 1

'kay bye.
Yakko [i really should get a whole kernel someday..]
