Sorry to bother you all but
Problem:

I compiled 2.0.29 last night ( while sleeping so i missed any warnings etc)
make mrproper
make config
nice make ; nice make modules ; make modules_install

Today - i woke
make zlilo
rebooted to see it work - shutdown and went to work;
when got home

I had running Workman
X
pine
that's about all

I pressed stop on ( Joe Satriani ) workman and went to watch tv at about 21:24
when i came back at 22:50 i found my computer writing to disk alot filling
my syslog with ( about 2 times a second - about how often workman checks
the cd status )

I thought Blow this and rebooted about then

here's some info on my system

potato kernel: Linux version 2.0.29 (root@potato) (gcc version 2.7.2) #2
Fri Feb 14 08:57:34 NZDT 1997
potato kernel: hda: WDC AC21000H, 1033MB w/128kB Cache, LBA, CHS=525/64/63
potato kernel: hdb: WDC AC2340H, 325MB w/128kB Cache, LBA, CHS=1010/12/55
potato kernel: hdc: WPI CDD-820, ATAPI CDROM drive
potato kernel: hdd: Maxtor 7290 AT, 276MB w/64kB Cache, CHS=941/14/43

isofs is a module , my system is all modules except ext2 and elf

running slack 3.1
XFree 3.1.2 ( yea i know oldoldold etc upgrade etc )

486DX2/66 ; QD65?? VLB EIDE ; yada yada

root@potato:~# ls -l /usr/ope*/bin/work* /dev/hdc /dev/cdrom
lrwxrwxrwx 1 root root 8 Jan 22 09:46 /dev/cdrom -> /dev/hdc
brw-rw-rw- 1 root disk 22, 0 May 8 1995 /dev/hdc
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root bin 120023 Aug 8 1995 /usr/openwin/bin/workman*

my CD-ROM ( Wearnes CDD-820 ) spins down after a while and ( from
2.0.26-2.0.29 maybe earlier but i have not had it long ) can be ejected even
when mounted , i suspect this was trigered by the cdrom spining down and
workman reading from it ??

I now have a data cd in and i'm gonna see if it can cause the errors
without workman

ooh look a different one in my syslog

I realize this is a user space program causing the volume of errors , but
they were not there in 2.0.28
