A better solution IMHO:
in linux/arch/is38/kernel/setup.c
compare memory_end BEFORE and AFTER the command line is parsed.
Then print a message ONLY if it doesn't change (ie. "mem=" was used).
Also, others have posted patches to improve detection using different
BIOS calls, and peeking in the CMOS (this is an old topic). These too
should be seriously looked at.
