xterm badness...

This is a problem that has been bugging me for a long time so I
want find a solution to it. A while ago. I noticed that whenever I closed
an xterm window, finger would still persist in showing that tty as being
open. Now I had heard that the utmp/wtmp structure had changed and
recompiling should fix it. So I downloaded the source for xterm from
ftp.x.org and recompiled. The recompile went fine and everything now
works EXCEPT xterm no longer records the location i.e. (:0.0)! If someone
has a fix for this, please email me...

I have libc 5.3.5, and kernel 1.3.68
