Do I detect sarcasm here ;-)

How about a kernel option, compiled in by default, that will display
the message, pause and beep at you until you hit a key. People who
know what they are doing would immediately compile that option out, so
they don't have to bother with it. People who don't read documentation
will be stuck with it until they upgrade to x.[02468].
