PROBLEM: Motherboard sound + local network file transfer = hang

Motherboard sound + file transfer on local network = hang.

When I have sound play through my onboard sound card (but not my usb
headset) while transfering files over the local network (typically it
doesn't happen when downloading files over my T1 connection) the system
will usually hang. This does not happen when I boot with only one CPU
active. I tried getting a kernel dump, but the system seems to hang
rather than crash and I can't get alt+sysrq+c to cause a crash once it
is hung. (It does cause crashes that result in dumps if I do it before
hanging the system.) I also tried using nmi_watchdog=1 and nmi_watchdog=2
and neither appeared to work. This is NOT new to the 2.6.38 kernel. I am
running luks encryption on top of software raid 1 for everything except
/boot.

To test this I can usually get a hang scp'ing a large file to another machine
on the local network and hitting backspace in a terminal window to get a beep.
(I hear the beep before the system hangs.)

If some fields are empty or look unusual you may have an old version.
Compare to the current minimal requirements in Documentation/Changes.
