Well, this if for avoiding inconsistency between kernel and userspace.
If you use unsigned long, sizeof(unsigned long) may be inconssitent
between kernel and userland like this:
kernel: sizeof(unsigned long) == 8
userspace: sizeof(unsigned long) == 4
