Kernel freeze on resume from sleep states

Hello,

since kernel 2.6.6-preX I have trouble with power management on my
laptop. It suspends without problems but it does not resume! I see the
yellow Linu****** (so the kernel awakes) but then it freezes. First I
suspected ACPI (so I switched to APM and back), then pcmcia, then nvidia
drivers, then various programs and finally I found out that it was
caused by USB! Whenever a USB device is attached, the kernel freezes on
resume. I tried attaching my mouse only, or my keyboard only, with or
without an external USB hub or the USB hub alone. It is always the same-
when something is connected via USB, the kernel dies on resume. So every
time before I resume the laptop, I need to disconnect all the USB
hardware and reconnect it later. I don't think that this is a desired
behaviour :(

Has anyone observed the same behaviour and could be a hint?

OpenBSD fails miserably in this respect, and makes for an example of how NOT
to work with the community on security issues. Their approach is, roughly,
"we fixed this a while ago but didn't tell anyone, so you're vulnerable and
we're not, ha-ha-ha".
