Hi,

This machine is running 2.2.17aa2 (I needed LFS), and I'm able to lock it
hard. This is what was in the logs :

Sep 21 23:55:38 fs1 kernel: hdc: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady
SeekComplete Error }
Sep 21 23:55:38 fs1 kernel: hdc: dma_intr: error=0x40 { UncorrectableError
}, LBAsect=16373421, sector=3521368
Sep 21 23:55:38 fs1 kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev 16:02 (hdc),
sector 3521368
Sep 21 23:55:41 fs1 kernel: hdc: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady
SeekComplete Error }
Sep 21 23:55:41 fs1 kernel: hdc: dma_intr: error=0x40 { UncorrectableError
}, LBAsect=16373421, sector=3521376
Sep 21 23:55:41 fs1 kernel: end_request: I/O error, dev 16:02 (hdc),
sector 3521376
Sep 21 23:55:44 fs1 kernel: hdb: timeout waiting for DMA
Sep 21 23:55:44 fs1 kernel: hdb: irq timeout: status=0xd0 { Busy }
Sep 21 23:55:44 fs1 kernel: hda: DMA disabled
Sep 21 23:55:44 fs1 kernel: hdb: DMA disabled
Sep 21 23:55:44 fs1 kernel: ide0: unexpected interrupt, status=0xd0,
count=1
Sep 21 23:55:44 fs1 kernel: ide0: reset: success

After that it locked solid.

Relevant dmesg output :

PCI_IDE: unknown IDE controller on PCI bus 00 device 08, VID=1106,

PCI_IDE: not 100% native mode: will probe irqs later

hdc: Maxtor 91021U2, 9641MB w/512kB Cache, CHS=19590/16/63, (U)DMA

The above is bad... It is using an unknown IDE controller, and it seems to
use UDMA.

lspci -v gives :

00:00.0 Host bridge: Stratus Computers VIA VT82C570MV [Apollo] (Wrong
vendor I
) (rev 02)
        Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0

00:01.0 IDE interface: VIA Technologies, Inc. VT82C416MV (rev 04) (prog-if
8a
aster SecP PriP])
        Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 32
        I/O ports at 6000

00:0a.0 Ethernet controller: 3Com Corporation 3c905C-TX [Fast Etherlink]
(rev
)
        Subsystem: 3Com Corporation: Unknown device 1000
        Flags: bus master, medium devsel, latency 32, IRQ 11
        I/O ports at 6100
        Memory at f1000000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable)
        Capabilities: [dc] Power Management version 2

00:0b.0 VGA compatible controller: Cirrus Logic GD 5446 (prog-if 00 [VGA])
        Flags: medium devsel, IRQ 10
        Memory at f0000000 (32-bit, prefetchable)

The reproduce is easy : I have 2 2.5 GB files, start two session at the
same time, and md5sum both files at the same time. Files are on a
different FS, on different disks. After about 20 minutes the machine locks
solid. I'll have the guy at the console see if it responds to sysrq..

        Regards,

                Igmar
