I have attempted to reproduce this with 2.4.0-test7 and failed. I
successfully tar'd 3.3G using exactly the same tapes which were failing on
2.4G (and obviously the same tape drive).

So, since it is no longer reproducible, perhaps Ted could delete it from
2.4 TODO list? It is hard to chase a black cat in a dark room, especially
when it's not there...
