Hi,

I'm writing a backup onto a mounted filessytem on a DVDRAM:

/dev/scd0 2361388 1136244 1103248 51% /cdrom

but this causes the machine with the DVDRAM to become very very slow
for longer and longer times.

/var/log/messages shows:

Jun 23 11:46:47 abraracourcix kernel: VM: do_try_to_free_pages failed for squid...

The machine has 128Mb RAM:

abraracourcix /home/wolff> free
total used free shared buffers cached
Mem: 127648 52388 75260 7744 25728 11612
-/+ buffers/cache: 15048 112600
Swap: 130532 29900 100632

.... and runs:
abraracourcix /home/wolff> cat /proc/version
Linux version 2.2.17pre4 (wolff@cave) (gcc version egcs-2.91.66 19990314/Linux (egcs-1.1.2 release)) #4 Mon Jun 19 10:47:05 MEST 2000

Any ideas?

                                Roger.
