I get the same checksum error (different value however) on our 3c905Cs.

Ditto.

I was having all kinds of trouble with 2.2.15 and my 3c905C. However, my
problem seemed to be stalling with heavy writing over NFS. I finally ended up
using 3Com's drivers, and things seem OK now, but not quite as fast as 3c59x
is with a 3c905B, but no more stalling.
