Gave pre7-6 a try. -pre6 is running now, mostly working although X's
major fault counter quickly exceeds 32 bits (90 minutes is enough; I'm
not sure exactly how long is required) and it crashes regularly.
On pre7-6, however, no packets would receive on eth0. I run epic.o
as a module; lspci says:
00:0b.0 Ethernet controller: Standard Microsystems Corp [SMC] 83C170QF (rev 06)
Subsystem: Standard Microsystems Corp [SMC] EtherPower II 10/100
Control: I/O+ Mem+ BusMaster+ SpecCycle- MemWINV- VGASnoop- ParErr- Stepping- SERR- FastB2B-
Status: Cap- 66Mhz- UDF- FastB2B+ ParErr- DEVSEL=fast >TAbort- <TAbort- <MAbort- >SERR- <PERR-
Latency: 8 min, 28 max, 32 set
Interrupt: pin A routed to IRQ 17
Region 0: I/O ports at b400 [size=256]
Region 1: Memory at c8800000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=4K]
Expansion ROM at <unassigned> [disabled] [size=64K]
The irq counter looked like it was incrementing for each packet on the
shared segment, but nothing would get through to userspace and the rx
stats in /proc/net/dev showed only 0s, except one boot where it showed
n error packets, n dropped packets and 0s for the rest.
I'm running i386-SMP.
I'm going to try tonight w/ epic.o compiled in rather than a module....
