I tried epic.o compiled in as promised. There was no improvement.
I was a bit off in the initial comments about how quickly interupts
were rolling in from the card. They were incrementing at approx
50k per second per cpu (dual PII) as compared to the approx 10 per
second per cpu. (Yes, 5000 times as many.)
