Just let you know that this does not happen with 2.3.99-pre5. Thus, with
2.3.99pre5, I achieved the goal of reading the OSF partition. Thank you
guys for that part.

BTW, with 2.3.99pre5 on Alpha LX164, samba is broken. Was this observed?
