2.2.x vanilla uses old style RAID, while RedHat has patched new-style
RAID into their kernels. You have to patch it into the vanilla 2.2.14,
too. Get the patch from www.redhat.com/~mingo/raid-2.2.14-B1 (this URL
is from memory, so it might be false).
