I just compiled kernel 2.3.49 but things are going in the same way.
This is the output of the hdparm -d 1 /dev/hda command:

hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError BadCRC }
hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError BadCRC }
hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError BadCRC }
hda: dma_intr: status=0x51 { DriveReady SeekComplete Error }
hda: dma_intr: error=0x84 { DriveStatusError BadCRC }
hda: DMA disabled
ide0: reset: success

obviously, I compiled with the experimental support for via chipset
and the cable is the right one needed for ata/66.

thanks in advance,
marco
