PPP Not Available??

I tried compiling 1.3.100 for my system. I made sure I selected PPP
in the make config setup, and I even watched my system compile it.
i rebooted my system, saw that PPP was in the built into the new
kernel. I started the PPPD and it said Sorry - PPP not available
on this system. Any clues?
