psaux, APM, gpm problem with recent kernels

I experienced that gpm does no longer work with recent kernels. I
have configured APM and use a PS/2 mouse. Seems there was a patch to
fix psaux/APM/gpm problems recently.

The effect is that as soon as I move the mouse, the screen highlights
text, and I can't get out of that mode. Anyone else?
