For me at least this problem still exists in 2.3.34 SMP.

My Iomega ZIP is attached to an AHA152x (i.e. more equation :-).
I do have an aic7xxx as well in there, but termination and most of all
cabling problems prevent me from changing the configuration on the fly
just like that.
