Is there a known problem with serial I/O and/or pppd?
Here is a session being logged via serial console on
/dev/ttyS1 since otherwise I can't get any logs.

Everything is fine until I disconnect.

This is the last thing logged. The machine is completely hung no
keyboard interrupts, no nothing. -- completely dead.

This is repeatable for long sessions. In other words, if I connect
for a few minutes everything is fine. However, any time I connect for
over 10 minutes the machine will hang.

I have tried previous 'stable' Linux versions.

Linux version 2.2.6 (root@quark) (gcc version 2.7.2) #2 SMP Thu Apr 22 16:38:33 EDT 1999

This is a reliable 'old' machine running only at 166 MHz.

The machine uses SCSI drives with a BusLogic controller. IDE is not
enabled in the BIOS.
