cat /proc/meminfo nutyness, or is it my ignorance

This is just to ease my conscience, I hope. I run a large production
Oracle database on kernel 2.2.11 and get some strange meminfo numbers.

MemTotal: 257920 kB
MemFree: 1664 kB
MemShared: 2159468 kB <------------------- crazyness?

Cached: 35972 kB
SwapTotal: 795096 kB
SwapFree: 788892 kB

I have 256M memory and 800M swap. This is a stock kernel. Should memshared
really be > 2 Gig? Perhaps I just don't know what memshared means. Enlighten.
