BUT, when it's a 300 GB partition, does the filesystem really need 5% of
300GB?
ie, 300GB*5% = 15GB reserved space.
That's kinda large and wasteful, isn't it?
Whereas 300GB*1% = 3GB reserved space, which is still a large amount of
disk space to hold in reserve for "fragmentation" purposes.
