Linux on Proliant 5500 (quad Xeon + smart2)

Not knowing what might possibly be a problem, I accepted the challenge
to run a Oracle8 production database on a Proliant 5500 at work. This
might give us an impression about stability and scalability.

Compaq has provides some documentation on Linux on Proliant; thought it
applies to the smaller Proliant models only (1850 and 1600). This makes
me wonder:
* Does any of you have experience running Linux on Proliant 5500? If so:
did it run well? Any hints?
* Does any of you have experience running Linux with the smart2 driver?
If so: did it run well? Any hints?
* Is any specific Linux distribution easier to use than others? (SuSe
6.1 seems to have built in support for smart2).
