I have the ensoniq audiopci (es1371). In modules.conf I have alias sound
es1371. I do modprobe sound, and it all works, no irq/dma etc.

There is a dearth of applications since most look at /dev/sndstat or
/proc/sound neither of which es1371.c supports. timidity does ok.
