I just saw this message when booting Linux in a machine I just installed.
It's a Compaq Proliant 1600, 2 PPRO 400Mhz with 128Mb. I use a RH5.2
distro upgraded to kernel 2.2.5 installed on a mirrored set of disks on a
Compaq SMART2 (cpqarray) RAID controller:

IO-APIC pin 0, 16, 17, 18, 19, 20, 21, 22, 23, 24, 25, 26, 27, 28, 29,
30, 31,
32, 33, 34 not connected.
number of MP IRQ sources: 16.
number of IO-APIC registers: 35.

Everything seems to work, except vmware that says:
IOAPIC: unexpected entries field 0x22
