Which is part of RPM. Probably not desirable for Debian or Slackware users,
although Alien might be a reasonable alternative.

But, as it turns out, if you delete everything up to the gzip magic number
you'll be left with a .cpio.gz file. I posted a simple Perl filter which
does this.
