Recipe for kernel oops with Linux 2.2.x

Greetings,

Here is a problem I've been having ever since moving from kernel 2.0.to
2.2 - I've seen it in every 2.2 kernel including -ac versions. I've seen
it on HP Vectras, and IBM 300 series boxes. The recipe for oops is
repeatable, every time. I can trigger the oops by simply following the
procedure below: (kernel 2.0 does not do this)

* Run kernel 2.2 on linux x86 with ibm "tropic" ISA token ring card.
Note - I always build the tr driver as a module

* run KDM (the xdm replacement from KDE)

* watch the fun begin the instant KDM starts

Here is a copy of the oops output:

Options used: -V (default)
-o /lib/modules/2.2.3/ (default)
-k /proc/ksyms (default)
-l /proc/modules (default)
-m /usr/src/linux/System.map (default)
-c 1 (default)

You did not tell me where to find symbol information. I will assume
that the log matches the kernel and modules that are running right now
and I'll use the default options above for symbol resolution.
If the current kernel and/or modules do not match the log, you can get
more accurate output by telling me the kernel version and where to find
map, modules, ksyms etc. ksymoops -h explains the options.
