[1] Oops while copying 100Mb from ext2 to vfat

[2] I was copying 100Mb from ext2 to vfat as root in a xterm launched by
a user when the xterm disappeared. I tried to launch an other xterm and
crashed X.

version pgcc-2.91.60 19981201 (egcs-1.1.1 release)) #59 Sat Feb 27
11:18:16 CET 1999
-> I will try to reproduce it with vanilla 2.2.2 and gcc 2.7.2.3
