If i'am correct this error seems to mean:

That your current kernel doesn't use modules, as syslog is build to run on
kernels with and without modules, it safe to ignore these Error warnings.

Subject: Error seeking in /dev/kmem

Hi all,

On a RH 5.2 installation, I make a 2.2.1 kernel. Everything works just
fine, and have for several weeks. But I noticed this error messages in
the log file:

kernel: klogd 1.3-3, log source = /proc/kmsg started.
kernel: Loaded 6110 symbols from /usr/src/linux/System.map.
kernel: Symbols match kernel version 2.2.1.
kernel: Error seeking in /dev/kmem
kernel: Error adding kernel module table entry.
kernel: Linux version 2.2.1 (root@firewall.altberg.nu) (gcc version
2.7.2.3)

In the mailing list archive I found two other postings back in -97 with
the exact same error message, but I didn't see any answers. Do anyone
have a hint what's wrong?

TIA,
Peter
