Benjamin,

I tried all that you suggested.
But, these are the results :

MOUSE in Mouse-Systems Mode:

XF86Config:
Protocol "MouseSystems"
Device "/dev/mouse"
-Result: mouse bounces around Lower-left of screen

XF86Config:
Protocol "MouseSystems"
Device "/dev/mouse"
ClearDTR
ClearRTS
-Result: mouse stuck in screen center, no movement

MOUSE in Microsoft Mode:

XF86Config:
Protocol "Microsoft"
Device "/dev/mouse"
-Result: mouse moves erratic across the screen
(sometimes predictably, mostly not)

XF86Config:
Protocol "MouseSystems"
Device "/dev/mouse"
-Result: mouse stays in Lower-left screen
and beeps intead of moving

I tried all above tests with device connected to each :

/dev/ttyS0
/dev/cua0
/dev/gpmdata

I tried the above tests with these Mice :

with my old Mouse
(maybe Microsoft mouse),

brand new Microsoft & MouseSystems mouse
with Mode-switch
by Digital research,

brand new Microsoft & MouseSystems trackball
with Mode by pressing Mouse-button
by Comp-USA.

Something tells me that some Manufacturers have
no respect for Linux.
