Yes. It's possible.

I'm seen such disks (created with some Mac soft). There was a lot of RPMs with
such names (no more the 32 letters !) and there are was just plain iso9660
without any extensions... Still IMO rock-ridge is more natural choice
for Linux CDs :-)
